Message from Warden

Dear students,

An enthused “Welcome back!” to all returning residents, as well as a warm welcome to newcomers to this community we hope you will call home for the rest of your stay here.

Chu Hai Student Residential Hall is proud to be home to students and fellows from different countries and regions.  There is clearly no shortage of talent or diversity of views. We housed students with a healthy mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students from all 3 Faculties. The Hall is an extremely diverse community from all walks of life, fostering a level of vibrancy. We are proud to provide a platform for students from different national, religious, and ethnic backgrounds to join hands to build a harmonious yet diverse environment, demonstrating maturity and mutual respect.

We’ve gone through a challenging period of the pandemic, yet we still hold a strong belief that eventually, we will overcome such difficulty no matter how tough it is, a faith that has us together and bring us into one. I wish to remind our residents to look after one another and together build a mutually supportive community; don’t hesitate to reach out to your tutors also at times of need – we are always here to listen.

As for the Hall management and operation, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Linda Wang, Assistant Professor in the Centre of Buddhist Studies, has been appointed as Assistant Warden. Dr. Wang received her Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from The University of Hong Kong, her research interests include religious education, value education, and PSE for children & youth. She used to work in Montessori schools in Beijing & Hong Kong.  She is the founder of MLH Youth Foundation, a local NGO to launch cultural and educational projects and events related to children/youth life education.

We are also fortunate to have Mr. Antony IP, Senior Student Affairs Officer in the SAO, join the team as a Tutor. Antony acquired his Bachelor degree in psychology from Monash University, a Master degree in Counselling from University of South Australia, and Master of Social Work from PolyU. Antony is an experienced Student Advisor with experience working in colleges. He is a certified GCDF who has worked with clients of diverse backgrounds in promoting their personal and career growth. Antony has also been coordinating individual counselling, holding support groups, carrying out community care projects, and helping students with different educational needs.

We are very excited to welcome Dr. Linda Wang and Mr. Antony IP to our thriving community of freely enquiring minds, their tenure as Assistant Warden and Tutor will surely enrich our collective residential experience here. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the recruitment and selection process, and we hope you will all show them a warm welcome. In the meantime, we are blessed to have Ms. Connie Mak continue to stay for her tutorship. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation for her hard work in facilitating this big family.

I am also pleased to introduce Student Tutorship as follows:

Mr. Zheng Jiaxin (2F), Mr. Wang Hao (3F), Ms. Tai Yan Yee (4F), and Ms. Zhou Jiahui (5F) are appointed as Student Tutors. They will mainly assist the Warden’s Team in the design and execution of activities and be responsible for the discipline. The captioned appointments are effective immediately.

Dear all, please stay vigilant and maintain all necessary health precautions to ensure a safe and healthy communal living environment. Feel free to reach the team if you have any questions or concerns.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all an intellectually and personally fulfilling year at Chu Hai College.

Very best,

Dr. Edwin WU
