MTR will continue to offer concessionary fares to eligible full-time day course students studying at the Hong Kong Chu Hai College (HKCHC) in the 2024/2025 academic year.
The online application platform has been opened as of August 15, 2024. Eligible students can now complete the application process in just two easy steps.
Eligibility
An applicant for a Personalized Octopus must be a student under the following definitions:
“Student” refers to any person between the ages of 12 and 25 who is currently enrolled in a full-time day course offered by an acceptable institution in Hong Kong. Students who have not yet reached 26 may apply. An applicant’s age is determined by the date the application is submitted.
“Full-time day course” refers to a day-time course, which normally requires the participant to attend an acceptable local institution for not fewer than 20 hours of academic instruction each week for 30 weeks or more in an academic year.
Application Procedures
Need to obtain a Personalized Octopus (with name and photo printed on the Octopus) – New application
1. Submit online applications by MTR Mobile / MTR website
Students can click here to apply online and upload a valid student ID card for identity verification and settle the application fee HK$90*
Upon accepted application, a notification letter or email noreply@app.octopuscards.com will be received with the new Personalized Octopus delivered by Octopus Cards Limited within 4 to 6 weeks from the Date of Application.
2. Activate the “Student Status” by using the Octopus App / any MTR Customer Service Centre
Please follow the instructions to activate the new Octopus and “Student Status” through Octopus App. You can also carry the letter, your identity documents and new Octopus to go to any MTR Customer Service Centre² for Octopus activation.
*The application fee of HK$90 includes the Octopus deposit of HK$50; a non-refundable fee of HK$20 charged by MTR Corporation Limited for administering the MTR Student Travel Scheme; and a non-refundable service charge of HK$20 payable to Octopus Cards Limited.
Already carrying a Personalized Octopus (with name and photo printed on the Octopus) – New Application / Renewal Application
1. Submit online applications by MTR Mobile / MTR website
Students can click here to apply online and upload a valid student ID card for identity verification.
2. Activate the “Student Status” by using the Octopus App / any MTR Customer Service Centre
You can activate the “Student Status” through the Octopus App within 2 to 4 weeks upon successful application. You can also carry the letter, your identity documents and new Octopus to go to any MTR Customer Service Centre² for Octopus activation. An administration fee of HK$20 is payable when your Octopus is successfully Activated / Renewed.

Remark:
- To contribute to environmental protection, our college does not apply for Hardcopy Form Application or Endorsement on the form; eligible students can apply directly through the MTR online application platform.
- Except Airport Express stations, Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, Racecourse, Disneyland Resort, Sunny Bay, Wong Chuk Hang, Lei Tung, South Horizons, Hin Keng, Kai Tak, Sung Wong Toi and To Kwa Wan stations
- If your “Student Status” expires on 31 October 2024 and it is not Renewed, full adult fares will be deducted from your Personalized Octopus or Personalized Mobile Octopus when you travel on the MTR.
